The Road Ahead

I guess I should start with this weekend. Friday- Worked at the g.clove. Met up with chris and trounced around the quarter. We decided to hit some bars we hadnt been to before since this was his last weekend. We tried to hit up yo mamas for a delicious burger, but their kitchen was closed. We decided to take that as a sign and call it a night. Saturday-more of the same. We decided to hit bars uptown. This night we got a little crazy. Which, as usual, was not in my best interest considering i had to work at both jobs the next day. Which leads to sunday, easter sunday. I did a different kind of praying than most im sure. I was just praying id make it through the day, without puking on anyone/thing. Well, i did make it. And when i got home, my bed never felt so heavenly. Monday i went with Chris to lafayette(about 2 hrs. west of here). We were on a mission to find him an apartment. Even though neither one of us had ever been around the city before. I couldn't believe i was actually navigating. ME. Pretty b-a-n-a-n-a-s(gwen stefani's hollaback girl, dude, i freakin love that song!!!)!!Anyway, we drove around to about 6 places, and both decided the last one we saw would be perfect! Just to give you an idea of how ridiculous rent is in california, he's gonna be paying $550. for a two bedroom, one bath. Its a pretty big place too!!! Anyway, we decided to head back home, and stopped in baton rouge for a bite, and for me to fill my mac fix!! Gawd, that store is like heroin!!! I just cant help myself, maybe someone should put me on that intervention show. Anyhoo, we made it home and i crashed. Woke up yesterday morning and helped chris with the rest of his shiggity. I was actually moving big shit too!!! Who is this wonderwoman i've become? Last night i worked at ny pizza, and kicked it with dale for one last night. He leaves for his new job tomorrow, a "cruise" on a lovely oil rig on the gulf of mexico. He'll be gone for two weeks, i'm sad!!!

Goodbye Friend

Its crazy, the difference having someone from your hometown around makes....like, i felt totally comfortable in my existence here, there's just something about exposing that existence to someone who, like, really knows you, i guess. The vulnerability, its weird. In a way, living here, it was just different for those few days broggi was here. It was like the one thing thats missing from here, that sense of home, was transplanted. Even though i knew it was temporary, it felt good, surprisingly and refreshingly good. I guess mostly cuz brog and i have been friends for awhile, and i thought i knew what to expect out of his visit. But, i definitely got alot more. He's definitely reached another level of life, a level that im proud to see him reach, and that makes me glad we're still friends(its been a rough.....barstow in the surburban... ride!!!). Anyway, sunday i spent the whole day working, i brought home a pizza and we just chilled. It was nice. Having a homey and chillin. It had a definite fresno flare!! On Monday, broggi's last stand.....We decided to go out with a bang, since most of his trip had been pretty mild. We drank the better part of the day away. Hit my favorite spots in the quarter and ran with it. I saw him off at the airport and called it a night. Tuesday i spent dealing with my not so much friend the hangover. Worked at the pizza place, came home and passed out. Today was my chill day off before next monday, the next day off. I had a weird realization today. I've been spending alot of time with my friend dale. He's pretty much heartbroken. We're totally just friends, but i just have to question how much longer our pseudo relationship will run. Most would probably live in the moment and enjoy it, i however am more concerned with whats about to happen. I've definitely spent more time with him than anyone else......I just don't want to see myself get f'd, per the usual. Its not even that i feel myself like, getting attached or anything like that, i just have this weird feeling.....damn this female intuition!!!! Anyway, not much lined up for this week except work.....gotta help my friend chris pack up his shit this weekend to head to lafayette for his new djing gig......its bittersweet, im glad he's found work, selfishly, i wish he was closer!!! Peace out!!

Cant you just leave a freakin comment???

I know you freaks are reading this shiggity. Why cant you let me know what you think about my rantings???? Even if you think they suck(which they dont!!!). Anyhoo this has been quite a week. Where to begin.......oh yeah,
Monday-Monday was margarita monday, dale and chris came over and i made moms tacos. It was a very chill evening. Chris went home and i packed some stuff to crash at dale's place(been having crackhead jamal anxiety).
Tuesday-I probably should've known the day was doomed when it started pouring down rain as i walked to dale's car in my FLIP FLOPS!!! At around 10am i realized that i had left my car parked on a street cleaning street(from 8am-noon they'll tow your car if its parked on the street). Praying that they hadnt towed my car yet, we raced(its a 20 minute drive!!)to the spot i'd left it,and.....no green machine. Ok, so, not only is this like, the 4th time my car's been towed in the quarter(125 bucks to get it out of towing). But, if you have any unpaid parking tickets, they have to be paid as well(i had $300.00 in tix!!!). The parking gods-"Hey, wanna see a girl totally freak out? Yeah, lets tow her car!!" Damn you parking gods, damn you!!! Thanks to rosie knight for her continued financial support of her loving yet unacceptably ignorant daughter(thats me). I dont know what i would do without her!! Well, i know i wouldnt have my car. Anyway, dale was a great help. He ran me around town to all the spots i needed to go. Then picked me up after work to go get my car. At around 1130 pm, the green machine was set free. Dale and i celebrated the days end with some wing shack wings(im totally addicted!!!) and vodka!!
Wednesday-I started another job at a little family owned restaurant called new york pizza. I worked the lunch shift with the owner. It was basically sink or swim, she showed me how to open the restaurant, then she got a huge takeout order and had to help the cook, so i basically got thrown to the wolves. It was nothing i couldnt handle, it was just a little odd cuz i hadn't even looked at a menu, so i was taking orders for, well, i really didnt even know what i was taking orders for. But, being the workhorse that i am, i figured it out, and eventually got into the groove. I came home and took a nap, then headed to the airport to pick up my friend broggi. So, this whole airport thing sucks!! For one, ive been here not even 6 months, and ive probably been there and back about 15 times!!! Im basically the airport shuttle for anyone i know. Not only that, i can never time it right, because of traffic, i like to allow extra time, so i always try to leave a little early. But, i always end up getting there too early and having to drive around randomly for what feels like an eternity. Anyway, i found him and we headed to the g.clove cuz the guy who was scheduled didnt show up for his shift!!! So, i ended up having to run around in my street clothes, it was pretty crazy. We eventually left the clove, grabbed a bite, and headed home. We called it an early night for we knew the day of drinking that was upon us.
Thursday- St. Pat's day. Oh and what a day it was. We started by having an early lunch at juan's flying burrito, and a pitcher of margaritas(what? they're green). We met up with dale, and headed to the block party at parasols. It was crazy!!! We actually ran into an old manager from the bourbon house, and pretty much posted up in one spot for the whole day. At around 430pm, dale became, drunk dale. Ohmigod, it was ridiculous. I've had to babysit before, but this, this was so draining it was sobering. I definitely know dale doesnt do drunk well, at all!!! We ended up taking him home at 7. Broggi and i decided to call it a day, and were in bed by midnight.
Friday-After getting close to a full night's sleep we wandered the quarter for the day. I had to work so broggi hung with some friends that were also in town. Late night we met up with chris and chance and headed to the bulldog. We ended up at monkey hill. And finally taco bell!! Today should be cool. More later!!

The weekend

On Friday night jason, chris, and myself all went out for a night on the town. We started in the quarter, made our way to frenchman st., then headed to the wherehouse district. We made it home around 4, where we met up with dale, who wanted to go get a nightcap!! The nightcap turned into a morning cap when we finally shut down the bar at around 6. On saturday, i worked for 12 hours. There was a st. pats day parade that passed by the g. clove, so it was like mardi gras all over again. Actually, it was busier and better(money wise) than mardi gras, everyone was in a cheerful mood. Guess its that irish love in the air!! Sat. night was pretty calm around here. Sunday was athena's last day in town. We made it out and about in the quarter around 11a.m. Picked up a bloody mary(or 2 or 4!!) and started strollin. We had athena's dog, shelby with us. She's a golden retriever, and is the sweetest thing ever!!! We stopped in lounge lizards for another bloody, when somebody recognized the bartender. It was angie from the latest season of survivor!!! She was pretty cool!! We chatted with her for awhile!! Then we headed to starbucks, for athena. We kinda posted up outside at one of their patio tables, and just hung out for awhile, people watching and stuff. When dale was like, hey, is that sean penn??!! I was like ohmigod it is...so you know athena ran her petite little ass up to sean and started chattin it up with him. He was actually really cool to her, which surprised me, since he always seems so unapproachable. Anyway, i had to work last night, so we called it a day, and i headed to the clove, pretty buzzed no less!! Today is my much needed day off. My friend broggi will be here onwednesday. I cant wait. The people at the g. clove actually gave me st. pats day off!!!!its gonna be awesome!!

wings, cherry bombs and the amazing race

So, tuesday night after getting home from work, i started to watch my tivoed shows. Started with american idol, dont lie you know you love that show!!! Its so drama filled and exciting, then i moved on to the amazing race.....let me back track....in september i attended a good friend's wedding. It was in fresno and was right before i moved out here. I went by myself(no, not cuz i couldnt find a date, ok, well sorta, it was the night of a big fresno state game, you know how those fresnans are about their suck ass teams!!!, yeah i said it, what? )mostly cuz i wasnt planning on staying for long. I knew there was going to be alot of folks from high school, meaning alot of people i rather not have to carry on forced conversations with in order to keep from seeming like a total bitch, like i care!! Anyway, i contemplated skipping the reception all together, but, relented and went anyway(the brides brother saw me at a gas station after the ceremony, and was all"so, ya gonna save a dance for me?" who says that?i was stuck, i had to go now, damn, and i had to dance with friend's "smooth talking" bro.double damn!!). As soon as i walked in i was taken to my assigned seat, where i realized i was surrounded by "those" people whom i was intentionally trying to avoid. I made a quick switch whilst they were all catching up on married life, kids, blah, blah, blah. Then realized, the wedding gods had blessed me with an open bar!!! After several dirty looks,(what?double fisting is totally cooth!!)i spotted two dreamy guys, who after much observation, i determined, were by themselves(sans dates!!!), and straight!! I made a female friend who was also there with a platonic date, and she quickly became my ally in catching the hot men before any of the other skanky sharks sunk their teeth in. One thing led to another (ok, one drink led to another...and another...they dont call it liquid courage for nothin!!) and i finally started chatting with my "dream guy". His name is greg, he's from santa monica, and was there with a cousin of the bride. We pretty much talked it up the whole night, danced a bit, talked some more. I was totally smitten(and pretty toasted too!!)Long story short it was one of those chance encounters in life where in retrospect you would change the outcome. I didnt get his number, we didnt even makeout( I KNOW, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??). I thought for sure my "dream guy" would be just that forever........so im starting tuesdays episode of the amazing race, i missed the first episode last week, and contemplated not taping this one since i hate to be lost. But followed my gut and taped it since its one of my favorite shows!!! And about 3 minutes in see a face, and my heart stopped, i felt all shaky, i thought, no way, it cant be......it was my DREAM GUY GREG, ohmigod, hes on the amazing race, for the whole world to see his cuteness, this cant be real!!!! Then i thought, hel-lo, this is your life janice, random as hell, of course its happening why would you expect anything less!!! So, people, watch the race, check out my not lost forever dream guy, and gush over his greatness, as i will be each tuesday from here out!!! So, yeah that was tuesday. Wednesday i picked up the house a bit, expecting jason to get home late that night. I went to the g. clove around 5 to meet dale for bloody mary's. He was running late, so i told a friend i take him to the bar he was at the night before, where in his drunkeness he left his cell phone(been there, done that). After, getting lost in the ghetto, having rain start pouring from the sky(my footwear=flipflops, nice!!), finally finding the seahorse saloon, and trying a cherry bomb for the first/last time(maraschino cherries soaked in 151,me=whats a cherry bomb?, dude at the bar=dude, they're awesome, i made em, try one, you'll love it!!me, after trying one, and nearly throwing up= you asshole!!) we made our way back to the g.clove. We decided to have pizza and drinks at tims place. When i met dale he insisted that we get wings from this place he loved. Quote-"This place has bomb ass wings, its "just a little ghetto". Ok, so, that was probably the point where most people would've passed on it. but nooooo, not me. I was like, ok, lets try it!! So, off we went, got lost for the second time in the same night. Finally found it under the overpass of the freeway, i started to turn into what i thought was parking when dale informed me"we cant park here. we have to pull up to the curb, turn on your hazard lights, and one of us has to wait in the car. " R u kidding me? I was like, uhh, no way im sitting in this car without you in it. So, we left the green machine, and headed into the wing shack. It really is just that, a shack. We walked inside this little room that had a wall seperating it from the kitchen, a plexiglass(bulletproof, im sure) wall. The counter was all plexi, when the guy gave us our total, he spun this little revolving plexiglass thingy(technical name) to take our money. The whole time im thinkin, damn, these must be some bomb ass wings, if fools are getting shot over them!!! After we ordered dale said we should go next door to the ghetto liquor store, and get a beer while we waited. Can you say BO-DE-GA?(Refer to scene in half baked when dave chappelle explains bodegas) It was awesome, they had half filled shelves of all sorts of grocery items, a fully stocked beer cooler, and a wall of nikes(for sale). I was like a kid at disneyland for the first time, just standing there, in awe, taking it all in!! A guy walked in and was like"Yo, let me check those out in a size 9!!". We grabbed two bud light bottles, paid for them(Bodega price=$1.75, total.), got our brown bags and headed back to the wing shack. We stood outside for a minute, sipping on our cold ones, me, fearing for my safety, got our wings and headed home. I, up until now, had never considered myself a fan of wings, but, the wing shack changed my mind. Once i got over the initial ghetto trauma, i tried a wing, it was so meaty, and spicy, they were very hearty wings..i guess people do shoot people for wings, if they're wing shack wings!!! Tim and company enjoyed them!! So, thursday morning jason flew in from vegas. We met up thursday night after i worked. We hit our usual spots and called it an early night cuz jas had to work in the a.m.(early night=3 am) Then it was onto the weekend!!!

Grandma got runover by the po-lice!!!

Dude, this is just sad!!!!

Tacos, Legends and Row, Row, Row, your BUS???

So here we are at the start of another week. I would say last week can be summed up in one word.random. It started with a visit from the artist formerly known as aaron on sunday. I was shocked to see him...."uh, hi.....are you lost??did you make a wrong turn at...say..2 months ago??"random......monday night, after kicking ass at the 90's version of trivial pursuit, i recieved a phone call from a guy whom i met in new orleans about two years ago.We met during the final four tourney and i fell pretty hard for him. when i moved back home to cali we hung out, ONCE, never heard from him again....until monday night....weird and cool at the same time..... but, random.....tuesday i made moms famous tacos for my friend chris, he was impressed!! They are sooo bomb. There is one thing this city's missing...authentic mexican food. I told my mom when she retires she should move out here so we can buy a taco truck!! Dude, that would be sooo sweeet!!! Anyhoo, thursday night chris called me with the surprise that john legend was gonna be in concert at the house of blues. He's got the hook up there, so we got to check out an awesome show for free. If you havent copped his cd yet, go get it, its legit!!!! After the show, we met up with the program director from the radio station who was with the pr chick from columbia records(john's label). She invited us to dinner at emeril's nola. Thank you columbia records for a bomb ass meal!!!!! On friday i got to hang with my friend dale who drove from s.d to here in a record two days!!! Saturday night we all hung out for one last time as it was athena's last weekend here in nawlins;o(. That girl is soooo crazy, it wont be the same without her!!!! So, that about wraps it up for now. The week ahead seems quite promising, jason will be here on wednesday night and this weekend the st. patty's festivites begin!!!! Oh, and you gotta check this shit out!!! I definitely feel deprived for not having grown up in the bayou!! God, i swear i almost(ok, i did a little, but, whatever!!)peed my pants on this one!!!!

partying it up at igor's

disco fever

Ok, so this weekend was pretty calm i worked friday and came home, and chilled, still feelin a little jetlagged from wednesday. On saturday a couple of my friends invited me to go out to "the clubs" with them, though i was still a bit fatigued, it would've been rude of me to simply turn down an invite!!(plus they were going to the gay clubs, how could i turn that down!!!) So, i came home, got all hussied up(after which i realized, hello, gay club, no cute guys are trying to look at you, total waste of a cute outfit, and my cute new brown shoes, they're hot!!!)and we headed to Oz. No, silly, not like"the wizard of", its the aptly titled name of the bar we were headed to!!! I'd never been to this club before, and i gotta say, these gay men got it goin on!!! It all started at the door, we were greeted by the happiest freakin bouncers i've ever seen!! "hey girl, how are ya, have a great time!!!" I wouldve loved to've seen them throw someone out, that shit wouldve been hilarious!!! Right after you walk in there's a huge sign with "the rules of the bar" Rule #1- THIS IS A GAY BAR, SO BE NICE OR LEAVE!!!........are ya laughing cuz i know i was!!! We preceded to the dance floor which was sprawling with hot young men(most of them shirtless, i still dont get what thats about, and why isnt that what straight men do at "our" bars???) and most of them way more concerned with how they looked than i was. I know, i didnt think it was possible either, but i know for sure most of them took longer to get ready that night than i did, yet another astonishing feat!! Anyway my friends and i danced our little gay booties off(yeah no, im not gay, but they made me an honorary member for the night!!), and a cute guy came up to me and said"you're very pretty" i was like uh-huh, thats right gettin hit on by a gay guy at the gay bar, feelin good. Then i realized, they're all just super friendly.....damn, just my luck!! Anyhoo, after we'd had enough i came home and called it a night, thanks tim and leo, i had a blast!! They promised next time we could go to one of "my bars", where we will again make eyes at the same men and take bets on their sexuality.....aint life grand???
